Park Jam 2024 offered something for everyone, with a variety of activities and events that made the day both meaningful and entertaining. Here’s a look back at some of the highlights:
The day kicked off with a special court dedication ceremony, honoring the resilience and spirit of the local basketball community. Commissioner Bill Lowry and Chicago Alderman Desmond Yancy delivered powerful remarks about the importance of investing in safe spaces for youth and fostering opportunities for positive engagement. Their shared commitment to uplifting the South Side was a cornerstone of the event.
Park Jam focused on empowering local youth by ensuring they were prepared for the school year. Over 300 backpacks stuffed with school supplies were distributed to students, easing the burden on families and ensuring children had the tools they need to succeed.
Basketball lovers were treated to thrilling competitions throughout the day:
Families and friends enjoyed a festival-like atmosphere, complete with free food trucks offering a variety of delicious meals and snacks. Music, laughter, and the sound of basketballs bouncing on the court filled the air, creating a welcoming and joyous environment for everyone in attendance.
Park Jam 2024 wasn’t just about basketball; it was about creating a space where community members could come together to celebrate unity, resilience, and shared purpose. Commissioner Bill Lowry and Alderman Desmond Yancy worked tirelessly to ensure that this event represented the best of Chicago’s South Side, offering families a safe and positive environment to connect, engage, and have fun.
